As a spin-off of Damen Shipyards, a leading Dutch shipbuilder, SolarDuck was founded in 2019 by a team of experienced entrepreneurs from the maritime industry. We are headquartered in the Netherlands (Rotterdam) and have a growing international presence with offices in Norway and Japan.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze manufacturing and assembly processes to identify improvement opportunities, specifically focusing on time studies and process mapping;
  • Design assembly workstations, ensuring optimal layout for equipment, personnel, jigs, and ergonomics based on takt times;
  • Develop detailed work method statements for each workstation to streamline assembly processes;
  • Draft procurement documents (buying scopes) for suppliers to construct workstations according to specifications;
  • Commission and develop test plans for new workstations, ensuring they meet operational requirements;
  • Perform measurements on workstations and update design based on continuous improvement;
  • Collaborate with the engineering team, providing feedback from production to inform and refine platform designs;
  • Engineer assembly lines to maximize space utilization and process efficiency;
  • Implement and refine fabrication methods, pushing the boundaries of production;
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to minimize waste and boost productivity, continually seeking ways to refine production processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering or a related field;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing, with a keen interest in continuous learning and development;
  • Six Sigma or Lean certification, though not a requirement, adds value;
  • Fascinated by lean manufacturing and continuous improvement processes;
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD 2D & 3D, with additional skills in Matlab/Python or similar assembly optimization software;
  • Solid understanding of assembly processes, including welding, riveting, and the preparation of manufacturing/assembly layouts for aluminum parts;
  • Adept at translating designs into tangible, efficient processes;
  • Knowledge of assembly tools (e.g., pneumatic guns, rivet guns) and time studies for manufacturing or assembly processes.
